THIRSK apprentice Philip Makin, who had a winner and received a ban at Newcastle yesterday, heads to Ayr tomorrow with hopes of gaining one without the other.

Makin, who is attached to David Barron's Maunby yard, teams-up with his boss in the Serendipity Interactive Ticketing Handicap and has excellent prospects with Thornaby Green.

The expected soft ground at Ayr will not inconvenience the three-year-old, who, although twice a winner on a fast surface, ran a blinder in the mud at Hamilton last month when finishing second to Pure Imagination.

Nicely handicapped and from a stable in good form, Thornaby Green is napped to go one better tomorrow and provide Makin, who has had an excellent season, with another winner, following his success yesterday on Tedstale Mac, trained at Norton by Neville Bycroft. His suspension was for careless riding, on an unplaced mount earlier in the afternoon, and will see him forced on to the sidelines for two days later in the month.

Rymer's Rascal, despite being in the twilight of his career, cannot be ruled out of the equation in the Family Day At Ayr on 7th November Selling Stakes.

Eric Alston's popular veteran has been in great form of late, winning at Thirsk and running well since in defeat. He will relish the easy surface.

Sheriff Hutton apprentice Paul Mulrennan can figure on the Ayr scoresheet, courtesy of Lets Roll in the Racing UK on Sky 432 Handicap.

Trained by Chris Thornton at Middleham, Lets Roll has enjoyed a fine season and, judged on his latest effort, when chasing home Elusive Deam on this course last month, he remains in good heart.

Mark Tompkins, on target with Marshman at York on Saturday, can add to his tally of winners with Stancomb Wills in the Daily Record Garry Owen Handicap.

The Newmarket trainer has brought this juvenile along steadily and his patience now looks likely to be rewarded. Stancomb Wills finished second to King's Account at Beverley last time and should be even better served now that he's contesting handicap company.

The Frankie Dettori-Kieren Fallon championship battle continues at Leicester tomorrow, where both jockeys will be in action.

Dettori got the best of things at York on Saturday when completing a Knavesmire treble.

Dettori is taken to score on well-bred newcomer Jabraan (2-20), Certa Cito (2-50), and Mansfield Park (3-20).
