MELBOURNE, newcomers to the York and District Sunday Afternoon League, made a great start to the season by winning their first round League Cup tie 9-1 at CB United.
Tim Fennell's penalty put Melbourne ahead and he went on to score a hat-trick with Greg Nesbitt also scoring a treble, while Robbie Pipe, John Nesbitt and Tom Beevers also got on the scoresheet. Keith Potter replied for United with a fine solo effort.
Another new side, Dunnington, opened their campaign with a 4-2 win over Turf.
King's Head edged out Knavesmire 4-3, while nine-man Yearsley were thumped 9-0 by Drum.
