A GANG attacked and robbed a York man as he walked home from a city pub with his girlfriend.
The victim was returning from the Winning Post pub, in Bishopthorpe Road, York, last night when the group pounced.
The man received facial injuries in the unprovoked assault before his mobile phone was stolen. His girlfriend tried to protect him.
Police today said nine teenagers were reportedly around the man during the attack. They were white, aged between 17 and 19 and were all wearing tracksuits.
Officers appealed for witnesses and said they could not confirm how many of the gang were directly involved in the robbery.
A York Police spokeswoman said the victim's injuries were not believed to be serious and at this stage it did not appear that the attackers knew the victim.
The robbery happened at 11pm in what police described as "an area near the pub".
