How sad to read that Janice Simpson of North Duffield is having problems booking affordable and available accommodation for her wedding guests in October (Letters, August 3).
She may wish to contrast the attitude of the York hotels with those in her own Selby district, where good value prevails, customer service is second to none - and you can book for a Saturday night only.
Most of the visitor trade in Selby is from repeat business, and our customers (many of whom are now good friends) recognise we are the best-kept secret in North Yorkshire.
We have also got the stunning Selby Abbey (where you won't get stung for an entrance fee), motorway access and visitor accommodation on the M1/A1 and the M62, the thriving market communities of Tadcaster and Sherburn-in-Elmet, and some of the most attractive and historic villages in the country.
Not only that, but since the Selby Bypass opened, our shops are flourishing and our car parks are busy because we have some of the lowest charges anywhere... and they are free after 6pm.
So, Janice, bring your guests to Selby District; we know how to give them a real Yorkshire welcome.
Coun Ruth Sayner,
Member for Tourism,
Selby District Council,
Portholme Road, Selby.
