HISTORICALLY, BMW 5 Series Sport models account for more than 60 per cent of the sales within the range, and this new version is expected to continue the trend.
There are both saloon and Touring (estate) models available.
They share similar looks to the recently unveiled high-performance M5 saloon and also sit on the same sports suspension. But there are differences inside and out.
The Sport models feature a new front bumper and valance with a wider air intake for better aerodynamics. At the side there are flared sills, dechromed window surrounds and bespoke 18-inch M light alloy double spoke wheels.
The new rear bumper includes a park distance control system. For the full sporting package, buyers can also ask for the optional M rear boot spoiler for £135.
Inside, there is a cloth/Nappa leather combination covering the sports seats, aluminium cube-style interior trim for the dashboard, centre console and doors, with an M Sports multi-function steering wheel, M doorsill kick plates and anthracite coloured headlining completing the sporting look.
Saloon prices start at £29,550 for the 520i and rise to £44,500 for the 545i, while the Sport Touring versions start at £33,150 for the 525i and top at £46,525 for the 545i.
