York City's pre-season friendly with Newcastle United at Bootham Crescent on Friday night was this afternoon called off.
The Magpies pulled out of the game because of an eye infection which is spreading throughout their squad.
Newcastle have closed their training ground and Lee Bowyer became the latest player to contract conjunctivitis and was withdrawn from tonight's first team friendly at Celtic.
It is thought the Geordies picked up the infection on their recent trip to Hong Kong and it has already laid low goalkeeper Shay Given and defender Andy O'Brien.
