POLICE targeting car tax dodgers in York arrested six people for a range of offences - including a 15-year-old boy who was caught at the wheel of a Ford Escort.
The youth was netted during a joint police and DVLA operation in Tang Hall where officers used the latest technology to sweep neighbourhood traffic in the first move of its kind in North Yorkshire.
Sergeant Mark Iveson said the operation was a "great success" and pledged to return to other areas of York and North Yorkshire to disrupt offenders and track down car tax evaders.
Six cars seized by the police could be crushed unless their owners pay outstanding fines and taxes. Two people offered to pay up at the roadside and were allowed to continue.
Among the arrested people was a persistent woman motoring offender who was caught driving her children without a licence. She has been charged with the offence.
Officers used automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology to identify suspicious vehicles and those with expired tax discs.
