YORK City have missed out on the opportunity to stage an England v Wales ladies under-19 UEFA Championship qualifying match because of Stevenage Borough's refusal to switch a Nationwide Conference clash.
The Football Association had chosen Bootham Crescent as their preferred venue for the October 2 international clash but Stevenage did not want to travel to City for a re-arranged Friday night or Sunday afternoon fixture.
International dates, fixed by UEFA, can not be changed, meaning the England v Wales match will now be played at an alternative stadium.
City finance director Terry Doyle said: "We spoke to Stevenage as we were very keen to host such a prestigious fixture and asked if they would agree to switching our game to a Sunday or Friday night. Stevenage exercised their right to refuse so regrettably we have had to tell the FA we are unable to stage the match."
Bootham Crescent will now host the under-19 qualifying matches between Wales and Romania and England and Bulgaria on Tuesday, September 28.
