THE 5.6.7.8's, the cult Japanese surf band from Quentin Tarantino's Samurai slasher movie Kill Bill and Carling's advert campaign in Euro 2004 will play Fibbers in York on August 20.
"I just thought it looked it look like a good show and, like everything else, I chased after it, so I'm pleased to have got them" says Fibbers boss Tom Hornsby.
Capitalising on the success of the deliriously daft Woo Hoo, the kitsch garage-punk trio will begin a 19-date tour in Newcastle on August 9, taking in The Welly Club in Hull on August 19 and the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival on August 29.
A typically obscure Tarantino discovery, the all-girl combo of Yoshiko Fujiyama, guitar and vocals, Yoshiko Yamaguchi, bass, and Sachiko Fujiyama, drums, meshes feedback and reverb into twisted, stomping lo-fi versions of Sixties' bubblegum pop, Cramps-style rockabilly and psychedelic punk.
The September 20 release of new album Teenage Mojo Workout on the Sweet Nothing label will be preceded by a single, I'm Blue, on September 6.
Tickets for August 20 cost £7 in advance from Fibbers or £8 on the door.
