REMEMBER Chad and his "Wot No"? Well here in New Earswick it is a case now of "Wot No Morning Papers".
As we say goodbye, thank you and good luck to the Woodcock family as their newsagents ceases trading after 85 years, there appears to be no one willing to take over.
Newsagents in Haxby and Huntington are unwilling to deliver to the village - they say that it is too far and they have difficulty in finding boys and girls willing to deliver papers, although they are prepared to save papers for us.
For many of the villagers, getting a morning paper will become a thing of the past as they are unable to walk to the nearest newsagent in the next village. Unless they are fortunate to find a friend or neighbour who can do what I am doing, collect for myself and six of my friends.
It is, after all, a big commitment seven days a week 52 weeks in the year.
Is there a newsagent who will take pity on us and deliver the morning papers to us? Thank you to the Evening Press, which can be delivered by arrangement to those who want it.
Jean Dow,
Darbie Close,
New Earswick, York.
