A WOMAN was still being questioned today over the death of a 23-year-old York man, Simon Gilchrist.
A murder inquiry was launched yesterday after Mr Gilchrist was found injured in Bell Farm Avenue, off Huntington Road, and died a short time later in York Hospital.
A post mortem examination has now revealed that he died of a single stab wound.
The woman, who is in her 20s but has not yet been named by police, was arrested at a house in Bell Farm Avenue early yesterday and taken to York Police Station, where she remains in custody for further questioning.
Two locations at opposite ends of Bell Farm Avenue were cordoned off yesterday - an area of pavement outside four flats where Mr Gilchrist is understood to have lived and an alleyway linking the street to Byland Avenue.
Police have appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Bell Farm Avenue, Huntington Road, Roche Avenue and Middleham Avenue area between 11pm on Sunday and 12.30am yesterday, or with any information which might assist in the inquiry, to phone them on 01904 631321.
