THANKS to everyone who bought tickets in the York Conservatives' summer raffle draw this year. Thousands of pounds were raised, the highest amount in fact for 12 years. Uncannily, the same length of time York has had a Labour MP.
On Saturday, Malcolm Rifkind, the former Conservative Foreign Secretary, asked the Prime Minister to resign because the country went to war on a false premise.
York's current MP Hugh Bayley voted with the government over Iraq, in spite of an enormous anti-war protest from his constituents.
How big does a false premise have to be before resignation is the only honourable thing to do?
Clive Booth,
York's Conservative Parliamentary Candidate,
Ash Street,
York.
