YORK City's new home shirt will go on sale at the club's Open Day on Sunday.

The shirt will be worn by the team for the first time at Saturday's game against Sheffield Wednesday and fans can buy it less than 24 hours later.

The Open Day begins at midday and finishes at 3pm with admission free for adults and juniors.

Supporters will be given a rare glimpse behind the scenes at the club and enjoy a day of family fun at Bootham Crescent.

City's first-team squad, including summer signings Steve Davis, Kevin Donovan, Paul Groves, Paul Robinson, Gary Pearson, Andy Bishop and Chris Clarke, will attend the event and supporters will have a unique chance to meet and be photographed with their favourite players.

Tours of the ground will also be conducted throughout the afternoon by ex-players Derek Hood, Andy McMillan and Chris Topping and former referee Graham Bradbury.

The tours' starting point will be the players' entrance in the main car park and include trips to both dressing rooms and the boardroom.

Junior and ladies football matches will also be staged and there will be a bouncy castle, Viking combat display, a 'Bend it Like Beckham' competition, a raffle and a Bootham Crescent picture display.

The Supporters' Trust and local fan groups the Harrogate, York and Malton Minstermen will each have a stall on the day with their own fundraising activities taking place.

City's Social Club, the Nestl Family Room and catering outlets around the ground will be open and a wide range of refreshments available.

Communications director Sophie McGill said: "We hope many of our supporters and people in the area will visit our Open Day on Sunday. It should be a great day out for all the family and a unique opportunity for football enthusiasts to get a glimpse behind the scenes at Bootham Crescent and meet the players.

"Last year, over the course of the day, we had between 3,000 and 4,000 visitors and we hope this year's event will be equally successful. Admission is free but any money raised on the day from the various activities and attractions on offer will help to boost football club funds as we prepare for the season ahead."
