BRIDLINGTON'S overseas star Haafiz Khalid and Dringhouses second team skipper Dave Storr are the winners of the Hunters the estate Agent York and District Senior League June Monthly Awards.
The awards covered games played on June 5 to the seasonal halfway stage on July 3.
Haafiz, who won one of the batting awards in 2002, clinched his trophy when he made 141 against Hemingbrough on July 3 to dash the hopes of Londesbrough Park's Dick Salmon who had reigned since June 12 when he made an unbeaten 132 against Wilberfoss.
The early pace-setter had been Hornsea skipper Dave Prescott whose unbeaten 106 against Ripon was the best score on the first day of the award period.
In all, 17 centuries were recorded in the five weeks as the adverse weather reduced batting opportunities after the century bonanza which occurred in May.
Whereas the batting award was won at the last opportunity, Dave Storr ruled
the roost for the whole of the month after taking 9-42 against Wilberfoss in division six on June 5.
His nearest challenger was Osbaldwick teenage paceman Chris Oldfield who took 8-37 in division one against Ripon on July 3 when his fine performance included a rare recording of four wickets in four balls.
Four other bowlers had eight wicket hauls in the month as bowlers took advantage of less favourable batting conditions.
The two winners, together with Huntington's Steve Beales and Thorp Arch's
James Turner, the previous month's winners, will receive their trophies and a certificate, together with a cheque for their club from the league's sponsors at a presentation evening at York Brewery on Tuesday, July 27 at 8 pm.
Players and supporters of all league clubs are encouraged to come along and join in the celebrations.
