FIVE new clubs were admitted to the Selby and District Junior Football
League at the annual meeting at Drax Sports Club.
Goole Town Tigers will field sides at Under-9 and 10 level, with Gilberdyke
at Under-8s and Under-9s. Ferrybridge Progressive have entered two Under-9s teams, with a team each at that level from Altofts and Castleford.
The new intake brings the league up to 30 clubs with about 100 teams playing in five age levels.
A new rule was brought in restricting future entries to a radius of 18 miles
from Selby Abbey. League officials were concerned that the league was
spreading too far from its original roots and concern was expressed about
long journeys for young players.
The present boundaries sees the league stretch from Altofts in the south west, down to Askern and Sutton, across to Gilberdyke and up to Elvington in the north east and Garforth in the north west.
The new season kicks-off on Saturday, September 11 and league allocations
and fixtures will be available by the end of August.
Officials elected were: chairman, Dave Robertson; secretary, Mark Berry;
treasurer, Martin Thomson. Divisional secretaries - Under-8, Andrew Ford; Under-9, Harry Codling; Under-10, Anne Mortimer; Under-11, Brian Wilde; Under-12, Stan Brooks.
