YORK City player-manager Chris Brass will be hoping the obstacles between his side and Conference glory next season are less demanding than those his players had to negotiate yesterday.
The Minstermen completed a tough assault course twice at Imphal Barracks yesterday as they were put through their paces by Warrant Officer Richie Groves, the Physical Training Instructor from 2 Signal Regiment.
City's players scaled 12-foot high walls, balanced on beams and swung on ropes before the two losing teams were left to face unenviable forfeits, taking a dip in the cold and murky water under one of the obstacles.
New signing Steve Davis and last season's stalwart Dave Merris were among the unfortunate players who finished the morning soaking wet.
City's first pre-season friendly is against Doncaster Rovers at Bootham Crescent on Friday night (7.45pm ko).
