IT is about time York council and the race committee got their act together. Why block off one of York's major arteries for race days (July 7)?
Tadcaster Road, one of the busiest roads in York, is going to be chaos. Where is all the traffic going to go?
Oh, it will go through Dringhouses; it will come off at Tesco's roundabout, down Moor Lane, along Chaloners Road, up Gale Lane, and down York Road to Dalton Terrace.
Oh dear, we have blocked up Acomb, never mind, and a few children will probably get run over because they will be on summer holidays.
With all the land at the top of Knavesmire, why not take a slip-road off the bypass and take all race traffic - and I mean all race traffic - down it?
I'm sure the royals would favour a direct route from the bypass.

...PLANS to minimise the effect of race traffic on the life of the city are welcome and timely.
Incoming vehicles are being funnelled along Tadcaster Road from the A64. Presumably this would include approaches from the A59, A19 and the other major roads feeding onto the ring road from different directions, and plans for these will follow.
My wife wondered whether the Arriva bus shuttle running between the railway station and Knavesmire would find favour with the Ascot regulars in their expensive attire.
She thought a wonderful opportunity presented itself for the royal party to set an example to the flock by using this facility. They could use travel vouchers to Knavesmire Gate and the coaches to the finish line.
