DO you know where K Bar is? This is not a trick question, but we'd bet more people would know the answer to "do you know where Kites Restaurant is"?
K Bar, which has been open for five years, is part of Kites (on Grape Lane, so as not to leave you guessing), but is a separate bar rather than being part of the restaurant, in Norman Court.
Still confused? Try looking to the right and behind Kites. The courtyard was darkened by scaffolding earlier this year, but it has since come down and revealed a light and airy area during the day, with a few tables laid out, and a continental-style outdoor extension of K Bar at night.
We'd add sunny to that description, but that would be relying on the weather round here to co-operate.
Co-owner Chung Wright admits that the bar is "off the beaten track and then tucked away," but says that "hasn't stopped us being popular".
For the rest of you that haven't found it yet, we at Bar Talk suggest you give it a try. As well as your standard Stella, John Smiths Smooth, Guinness and Budweiser on draught it also has San Miguel, plenty of bottles if that's what you prefer, and a decent wine list.
If you're after the harder stuff, it also stocks an impressive array of liqueurs, especially on the first floor, and it does food.
The downstairs bar is modern and smart.
Upstairs there are two rooms: the bar area with plenty of table seating, and a much bigger room with wooden floors and big comfy leather seats, making another light and spacious area hung with artwork for sale and overlooking the courtyard.
In a city that has more than its fair share of hidden attractions, here is another worth seeking out.
