A golden opportunity has presented itself. The University of York should use the soon-to-be redundant Terry's factory and site as its new extension instead of using green belt, agricultural land east of Heslington.
There already exists the cycle route from Bishopthorpe Road over the Millennium Bridge to the university.
The Terry's site would cost considerably less than a new-build with all the associated problems of construction, traffic and noise that would continue for at least 15 years.
This would deflect major problems. Traffic and student accommodation would be spread cross the city instead of the increasingly detrimental effect on the Heslington area.
The proposed site would ruin a conservation area and destroy a village.
There must be a public inquiry and this suggestion considered.
