Superslick production, a dollop of high-energy disco, some achingly heartfelt R&B ballads and a debut LP image straight from the windswept, half-dressed Atomic Kitten/Liberty X photoshoot textbook.

Yes, it's another Popstars/Idol star dropping off that seemingly never-ending reality TV conveyor belt specialising in producing Grade A mind sludge.

Streetwise Javine tries admirably to stand out from the mass mediocrity of manufactured clones that constitute rivals. Groove-laden opener Real Things cracks along at a belting pace and there is no denying Javine has a booming, Boeing 747 sound of a voice.

But when one of the highlights of the album is a thank-you credit to her pet dog - "How could I forget the love of my life, Rocco" - you know you have reached a section of the pop ladder under the rung marked 'nadir'.

Dog distractions aside, if Surrender is a taster of things to come, Javine should start waving that white flag.
