Celine's show truly does look spectacular. Even the most casual of observers would be impressed by the sheer vastness and lavishness of her Las Vegas production.
Indeed, the incredible Colosseum at Caesar's Palace was built especially to house the show.
Surprisingly, Celine's choice of material consists of so many tried and tested covers, albeit immaculately performed. Surely, the world's A-list writers would have been more than willing to have submitted a new masterpiece or two?
Instead we are treated to the evergreen Nature Boy, At Last, What A Wonderful World and Fever. These are wonderful songs, but so well known they are far from challenging.
Of the newer covers, Celine tackles Stevie Wonder's I Wish, Cyndi Lauper's I Drove All Night and Pandora's Box's It's All Coming Back To Me. Celine's versions are, as always, technically perfect but she hardly adds a new dimension aurally. That is why it is such a wise move to include the 45-minute DVD taster of the show. Franco Dragone's production is magnificent.
A vast troupe of dancers, gymnasts and magicians take Dion's music to another level. As a promotional tool to sell the show, this collection is faultless. It is just a shame that, as a new musical work, A New Day has not broken any new ground.
