THE review of The Last Supper (Charles Hutchinson, July 6) did justice to the powerful story and acting of Ray Alexander's production, as well as raising sharp points about the continuing tradition of performing the Mystery Plays in York.

We were very fortunate to host the preview performance of the play in St Thomas's Church, with an audience of about 40.

The fine acting held the audience, adults and teenagers, throughout while the final, agonised Judas kiss brought some to tears.

The cast assembled at the end to receive a rapturous... silence. The silence lasted as they left the stage, and they had to be recalled when the audience had recovered enough to show their appreciation by the more usual (loud) applause.

The play in performance does just what drama should, but rarely does: it evoked a moment where something profound and moving happened, something memorable.

See it while you can.
