DESPITE fielding eight players with first class experience Yorkshire Seconds lost their Second XI Trophy 50 overs-a-side fixture against Nottinghamshire by 14 runs at Clifton Park yesterday.
Notts also had a strong side and their early batting managed to build a platform against occasionally wayward Tykes bowling. After Darren Bicknell, Will Smith, Billal Shafayat and Anurag Singh had taken their toll, Yorkshire seemed to be facing a large total by Andy Gray's spinners claimed two scalps and Tim Bresnan added some respectability by containing the tail.
The visitors' total of 258 seemed no more than par on a good pitch. Yorkshire started well with Andrew Gale and Richard Pyrah, unfortunate to miss a century, batting well if a touch slowly.
With wickets in hand it would have been expected that Michael Lumb, Vic Craven and Tim Bresnan would lift the pace but none reached double figures against some tidy Notts out-cricket. Richard Blakey tried a rescue, but the tail fell away and Notts were home with three balls to spare.
