ON behalf of Selby and York Primary Care Trust, I wish to express our disappointment and disapproval following the publication of the Saturday Sound-off on June 19.
The article's depiction of people with mental health problems is not only inaccurate but extremely offensive. With one in four of us experiencing mental health problems such as anxiety, depression or psychosis, the article could have asked why stigma and discrimination are still common.
It could have emphasised the need for understanding and support to give everyone an equal chance for work, education and respect in their communities.
As most people with mental health problems make a full recovery or have periods of being well, the article could have questioned why they should be excluded from jury service unnecessarily.
It is essential that people suffering from mental ill health do not suffer further stigmatisation and prejudice. An article such as this can only add to their difficulties.
