I AGREE wholeheartedly with Janet Kitchen regarding the attitude of David Blunkett towards the Chief Constable of Humberside (Letters, July 1).
The Data Protection Act is confusing enough but it is quite clear about information pertaining to "allegations".
As Ian Huntley was never convicted of a crime, he, like any other member of the public accused but not convicted, was entitled to have that information cleared from the databanks.
Information can only be held for as long as it is pertinent.
At the end of the day, if David Blunkett feels that the "figurehead" should take full responsibility for what happens in his area of responsibility, is not the Home Secretary the final "figurehead"?
Therefore, I again agree with Janet, should he not be the one resigning?

...The UK police state has now come about through the suspension of Chief Constable David Westwood by the order of the state.
And what did we, the culpable electorate, do but quietly acquiesce while eating cake and driving our 4x4s.
