DIVISION three leaders Bolton Percy suffered their first defeat of the season despite dismissing home side Woodhouse Grange for 98 as the bottom club's first win of the season produced the shock of the day.

Grange's meagre total owed much to 17-year-old James Rudd, whose 33 represented the only worthwhile contribution as Ali Rigby claimed 4-37. Bolton's half time sunny disposition was soon clouded when Peter Head claimed a hat-trick in his first over. Danny White fought valiantly in making 43 but Head captured 4-24 as Bolton were dismissed for just 76.

New Earswick leapt from fifth to second in the table after racing to a nine-wicket win at Yapham in 23.1 overs. Craig Stimpson's 15 over spell which saw him grab 6-49 set the tone for the day as Yapham were pegged to 131-9. Dick Wright 27, Nigel West 26no and Sam Rees 24 displayed some application for Yapham but their efforts were totally eclipsed by Andy Freeman 51no and Mike James, who made 74 in a winning total of 134-1.

Clifton Alliance slipped from second to fourth when they were unable to match Acomb's 171-8 in a close finish which saw Alliance finalise on 163-9. Rob Littlewood with 69 and Neil Hinde 26 were Acomb's batting successes with Alex Wray taking 3-48 for Clifton.

A Stillington side shorn of the services of Khagan Raja Arsal, who has returned to Pakistan, were no match for Heworth, who ran out winners after a good all-round display by Jason Gatus, who took 4-33 and then made 28no.

With Graham Knott taking 3-23, Stillington were toppled for 73 prior to Gatus and Rich Woodmansey 32no clinching an eight-wicket win after the loss of two early wickets.
