NO plate was safe at a Greek restaurant in York after the underdogs stormed in to the Euro 2004 final with an extra time "silver goal" winner.

Compatriots packed the Mana Taverna, in St Sampson's Square, to watch last night's nail-biter against the Czech Republic.

The roof almost came off when Traianos Dellas glanced home the winning goal seconds from the end of the first period of extra-time.

Owner Nikos Monoyiou said more than six dozen plates and two tables were trashed as fans went barmy at the prospect of a Saturday showdown with hosts Portugal.

He said: "The whole place is an absolute mess. There are plates all over the floor, and we have been popping champagne all night."

Nikos, a Manchester United season ticket holder, said he was trying to get a flight to Portugal today so he could see the final live.

Greece booked their place in the final in dramatic circumstances when Dellas scored his header against the Czechs which was technically a silver goal, but had more the hallmark of a golden goal as referee Pierluigi Collina declared the game over before the match could be restarted.

For the Czechs, Tomas Rosicky hit the bar in the first half and Marek Jankulovski forced two good saves from Antonis Nikopolidis.
