I WRITE in response to Mike Usherwood's letter 'Cross at cyclist' (Evening Press, June 23). One Monday morning I set off on my daily commute to work from Acomb.

In Green Lane and Beckfield Lane I had to negotiate four illegally parked cars, all on double yellow lines. At the A59/A1237 roundabout, while waiting to turn right, four cars came round the roundabout without indicating; two of these drivers were using their mobile phones and driving one-handed.

I then was stuck in a queue of traffic down to the Poppleton roundabout, having to get through at least a dozen stationary cars blocking both lanes of the ring road. The queue then continued down to the A19 roundabout.

While waiting to turn left, I saw eight cars using the right-hand lane (marked right turn only) to avoid the queue, and go straight ahead to the Tesco's roundabout. Two almost caused serious accidents.

This all happened in a 20-minute journey which should have taken ten minutes. Who knows how many other traffic offences irresponsible drivers carry out during a normal day?

Perhaps we, as car drivers, should put our own house in order before picking on other road users.
