BILL Hearld has really started something with his column (June 22) closely followed by Heather Causnett (Letters, June 25).
As someone who once risked wrath, the cells or purdah by nipping the rear of a male person, I am keeping a low profile. It happened a few years ago in broad daylight in the town centre.
The man concerned was and, fortunately still is, a gay friend. I don't know what came over me because I am usually very straight-laced and known as "Matron".
I thought the chap would be thrilled, but he spun round, disappointed to find only me, although he did take me for a drink after the incident. Because it was a few years ago, do I get time off for good behaviour?
I have been on the receiving end of a pinch from a man when I worked in a hospital. I also tried being a "port and lemon" wife, but got thoroughly bored.
Instead of sitting there like a stone jug, I occasionally let my long-suffering husband off the leash and stay at home, reading and cooking quietly.
I know my place.
Margaret Lawson,
Aldborough House, York.
