AN anonymous sympathiser feels Acomb residents should show "respect" for those who are making their lives a misery (June 28).
To whoever this is, who hasn't got the guts to identify themselves, I point out that respect is something which has to be earned.
Damaging private property by scratching cars or trashing Christmas lights does not earn respect. Physical assault on someone does not earn respect.
The unknown sympathiser should try talking to the miscreants and the parents who failed to instil a sense of responsibility and respect into their offspring instead of preaching to residents fed up with anti-social behaviour.
The usual result of trying to talk to these "misunderstood" people is a mouthful of foul language and threatening gestures.
So, Mr, Miss or Ms Anonymous, put your money where your mouth is and show the law-abiding residents of Acomb you hold influence with these youths, then you may get others to help and encourage "misunderstood and underprivileged kids".
A Dobinson,
Askham Lane, York.
