A PUPIL at Pocklington School, 14-year-old pupil Georgia Rose Bijster, has won the age 13 to 15 section of a competition run by the Royal Geographical Society to find the Young Geographer of the Year.
To compete, Georgia had to write an 800-word essay for publication in the society's magazine on how best water should be used.
Her essay concentrated on renewable sources of energy including hydro power, wind farms and tidal barriers.
Extracts from the winning essays will be published in the January 2005 edition of Geographical Magazine.
Georgia was presented with her winning certificate at the Royal Geographical Society and won geographical equipment for herself and for the school.
