DR Simon Ward's letter about cyclists errs on the flippant (June 25). I can assure him there is nothing nice about seeing an old woman hit by a cycle on the pavement as I have.
I have also personally had three near misses with pavement-riding cyclists.
The number of people who are riding on the pavement seems to be increasing.
I should also like to let the legal cyclists know that when turning right sticking their hand out and manoeuvring is not enough. They must look behind then, when clear, manoeuvre. It will hurt if you get hit.
Please take responsibility for your own safety.
