THOUSANDS of cyclists from across the UK were descending on York Racecourse today to celebrate the 60th birthday of the York Cycle Show.
The event, which is expected to attract more than 15,000 people, is the national rally of the cycling organisation CTC and takes place today and tomorrow.
The first York Rally, in 1945, attracted 5,000 people for a celebration of cycling after the Second World War, and has since grown to become the country's favourite cycle show.
The show brings together enthusiasts, trade and cycling organisations, and features competitive events, an auction and demonstrations.
The latest bikes, clothing and accessories will be on sale and the arena will host events including championship racing, vintage bike displays and demonstrations by top stunt cyclist Jes Avery.
Tomorrow there will be a grand parade of 2,000 cyclists from the city centre following a special service at York Central Methodist Church. Further information can be found on www.yorkcycleshow.co.uk
