There was better news for Yorkshire yesterday when Craig White's scan revealed that his hamstring injury was not as bad as first feared and he may now be fit for action again in just over a fortnight's time.
"I need to rest up for a week or so but can then start my build-up again if all goes well and I hope to be able to return for the Twenty-20 Cup game against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on July 7 or the one with Leicestershire at Headingley on the following day," said White.
"My big worry when I got the injury was that I would not manage the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy semi-final clash against Gloucestershire at Bristol on July 17 but I should be all right by then."
As well as missing White for their Championship meeting with promotion rivals Hampshire at the Rose Bowl tomorrow, Yorkshire will also be without Darren Lehmann, who returns to Australia today for the Sri Lanka series, and Anthony McGrath, who is with the England squad.
The absence of these top players has afforded director of cricket David Byas the opportunity to bring left-hander Andrew Gale into the squad of 12, plus all-rounders Vic Craven and Andy Gray.
The side is strengthened by the return of Matthew Hoggard after England had kept him out of the Leicestershire match and his presence means there is no place for Tim Bresnan who will play for the Second XI in their three one-day Trophy matches this week.
