A TRIO from York hope to don international jerseys tonight when England take on Scotland at Heworth ARLC's Elm Park Way.
It is the opening game of the amateur Home Nations Championships featuring players from the Rugby League Summer Conference, a match which will be part of the York International 9s RL Festival taking place at Elm Park Way this weekend.
It will kick off at 5pm, after the completion of the day's play in the nine-a-side York 9s tournament, which will then restart tomorrow morning.
Although this England squad is not as good as the British Amateur Rugby League Association Lions line-up - the two teams are selected from different governing bodies - the players picked are among the best in the Summer Conference set-up.
The York trio in the England squad are Andy Gargan and brothers Matthew Embleton and Kenny Embleton, who all play in the Summer Conference North East Division for Bridlington Bulls.
All three also play in BARLA's Arriva Trains Conference in the winter season, the latter for Heworth and the former two for York Acorn.
The trio would probably have been playing for Bridlington in the York 9s competition itself, but will instead be in the England camp.
Also in the England squad is former York University student Callum Irving, who had a short spell with York Wasps. Irving has also played for Scotland Students but is eligible to represent England in this competition. He now plays for St Albans.
