POCKLINGTON Coachworks of Osbaldwick seems to make a habit of reaching the finals of the Evening Press Business of the Year awards.
Last year, the organisation which builds super-duper caravans for Formula One racing teams, was in the final three in the Exporter of the Year category.
This time it has reached the finals of the Progress Through People award and its inspirational leader Fran Johnson is in the top line-up for Business Personality of the Year (see below.)
It has gone beyond its Investors in People status to create self-managed teams among its 68 staff, 47 of whom are on the shop floor and the balance support staff.
With the help of York-based training company Bergander and Business Link North Yorkshire, the innovative engineering company set up its "winning teams" programme designed to highly train and develop team leaders to create a trickle-down of knowledge involving everyone in the business.
Apart from the firm's apprenticeship programme - now in its fourth year and part of an £80,000 investment in general staff training - judges were impressed with detailed testimonials from clients such as car makers Subaru and Toyota Motorsport.
