A DANISH company has announced it is moving to York, creating jobs for people in the city.
Stibo Catalog, a top international information management and publishing firm, will be moving to an office at the IT Centre in York Science Park. The company has headquarters in Aarhus, Denmark, but it will be using its new York location as a base for product development and sales.
Stibo Catalog has a total of 200 employees in the UK, USA, Germany, Denmark and Singapore. And the firm has achieved the Dun and Bradstreet AAA rating for financial stability.
It is part of the Stibo A/S Group whose origins in book publishing date back to 1794. Other members of the Stibo A/S Group include CCI Europe, the world's leading supplier of system solutions for newspapers and magazines, as well as Stibo Graphic, a major print and electronic publishing company.
Stibo Catalog has taken advantage of the high-quality pool of employees with publishing systems expertise in the York area. And the company has already recruited the office's product management and development team. Carsten Lau, Vice President of Marketing at Stibo Catalog, said: "York was a natural choice for Stibo Catalog because a number of employees live in the area, and to support our customers in Northern England.
"We chose York Science Park because it is a modern facility that is conveniently located to the city and the major traffic arteries."
The move has been welcomed by both York Science Park and the inward investment board, york-england.com.
Susanne Walker, managing director at York Science Park Innovation Centre Ltd,
said: "We are delighted to welcome Stibo Catalog to the IT Centre on York Science Park and hope that they experience further successes through business partnerships developed here on the park."
Dave Taylor, marketing director of york-england.com, said: "We're delighted that Stibo Catalog has recognised the quality of staff in York, the quality of premises, and the accessibility to support its sales and development operation in the North of England."
