A STAGGERING 435 runs were scored at Ovington in their Prendergast Memorial Trophy tie against Wheldrake.

Wheldrake took to the field first and let Ovington's comeback opener Matthew Knowles crack 53 runs followed by a storming unbeaten 97 from Barry Steel.

The daunting 241-4 target was charged at by Wheldrake's batsmen, yet it was left to latter willow-wielders father and son Kevin (51) and Callum (29no) Dent to put on 73 runs for the ninth wicket to get close at 194 all out. The tireless Steel returned to claim 4-22.

Phil Helliwell (52) and Tony Sharman (56) put on 91 for the first Bishopthorpe wicket against Thorpe Willoughby. Andy Spence struck 43 to carry on the momentum and Bish ended on 217-3. Derek Slack then grabbed 5-2 from six overs to skittle Thorpe out for 54.

York trounced Copmanthorpe by 196 runs.

York's openers Tim Rose blasted 115 and Greg Allison 66, supported by a quickfire 52no from John Sharpe.

With a massive 274-3 posted Dave Murray proved that bowling was easy by taking 7-20.

In another high-scoring affair, Malton and Old Malton and Selby produced 367 runs for 11 wickets. All the Selby bats contributed to the score of 183-7.

But while such a total might win many a match, Malton's Simon Benson, with 44, and Peter Clarkson's unbeaten 60 took the spoils in a Malton win by six wickets.

Wistow played Selby's second string and had skipper Jaimie Middleton on good form. His 69no took Wistow to 177-7. Middleton's 3-12 from ten overs was only eclipsed by Steve Elliott's 4-6 from four overs as together they ensured a 105-run triumph.

Pocklington's Graham Forsdyke claimed 5-28 against Melbourne. Only John Howard showed resistance with 32. Chasing a victory target of 118, Ben Donkin and Ian Kelly put on 65 for the first wicket. This proved a good platform for an eight-wicket win.

Stockton and Hopgrove had chances to overtake Heworth's 145-8. But Heworth's Keith Hyman's superb 4-17 kept Stockton 37 runs at bay.

There was a last ball thriller in the Scothern Construction Cup quarter-final at Thorpe Willoughby.

Clifton Alliance batted first and had Will Roe provide the backbone of the innings with his 48 runs. Their total of 152-9 was divided up by the Thorpe attack of Granville North (3-32) and Lewis Smith (3-41).

Thorpe found partnerships hard to find and after being 62-1 and 115-4 it was left to last pair Steve Craven and Dennis Powell to score the 16 runs left. The luckless Roe took 4-40.

Heworth's John Bonarius scored 92 against Tadcaster Magnets. He shared an 83-run stand with Mark Groom (31) in setting a 183-6 total. Groom then followed his knock with 3-19 to leave Tadcaster on 161-7. Mick Cowling top-scored with 53.

Malton and Old Malton batted first at Acomb. Acomb's Alistair Carberry took 6-17 in sending Malton packing at 90 all out. Andy Ingle hit an undefeated 24 to steer Acomb home by seven wickets.
