AT the halfway stage of the York Amateur Bowling Association league competitions only Holgate and Selby remain undefeated.
In division one, Holgate have gone 14 points clear of Haxby Road, who have a game in hand and remain the only club who can make a serious challenge for the title as all the others have lost at least four games.
Selby, with a game in hand, are one point behind Stamford Bridge at the top of division two and 19 points clear of third place. As it is expected promotion will be limited to one team, the place should go to one of these clubs.
Holgate WMC and University face a similar fight in division three as there is a ten-point gap between them and third place.
Dean Moss won the Bert Keech 2 wood singles competition which, due to the lack of entries, took the form of a round robin resulting in semi-finals where Dean beat Dave Harrison 15-8.
In the other, Doug Richardson lost to Mathew Cooper 15-7.
The final was first to 21 instead of 15 as in previous rounds and Dean took full advantage of this.
Trailing 16-10 after 20 ends, he won the next eight ends to take the title 21-16.
The YABA president, who sponsored the event, expressed his disappointment at the small number of entries, who were predominately from the home club.
