AN all-singing, all-dancing York school busy preparing to stage a summer version of a Shakespeare classic has been praised for its ace arts provision.
St George's Primary School has won an Artsmark gold award from Arts Council England.
The award recognises schools that demonstrate a cultural commitment, from drama and music through to design, literature, dance and sculpture.
St George's head teacher, Helen Glendinning, was delighted with the honour. She said: "A well-balanced curriculum which includes access to the arts in its many forms is essential for children's all round educational development."
She said St George's took part in annual school dance and drama festivals. Artists often worked with pupils and teachers had worked alongside members of the Royal Opera.
Meanwhile, the school is presenting Dream On, a musical play based on A Midsummer Night's Dream, in partnership with York Theatre Royal.
The outdoor production was held in the school garden last night. A second performance will be held today at 7.30pm.
Audience members are invited to bring a picnic and a blanket to enjoy the musical based on William Shakespeare's enchanting play.
