WHERE there is a will for two totally different York firms to help each other out, there's a way.

RedBlack Software, the IT firm in King Street, has designed an online database for its near-neighbour National Legal Services (NLS) of Ryedale House, Piccadilly.

NLS offers advice on will-writing, and other services such as inheritance tax, property trusts and planning attorney.

The bespoke online database enables NLS agents among its network of legal consultants nationally, to access detailed information via a laptop computer from any location. It also allows the agents to browse and input data at the touch of a button.

It features a password-protected Agent Zone with secure access to client records, product details and general advice. There is a company notice board and agents can download corporate documents.

Robert Holly, NLS senior consultant, said: "The new database offers instant online support to our agent network. We are committed to providing full training with ongoing assistance, to enable agents to launch their own business under our umbrella.

"This database ensures that every agent has access to help and support."

He said that the database, which creates a streamlined "virtual office" allowing administrative information to be shared between NLS York and its team of qualified legal specialists in Sheffield, had "revolutionised our filing system and has saved a huge amount of man hours".

RedBlack Software, led by managing director Jane Tyler, recently expanded to the point where its staff of seven moved out of York Science Park and into new, larger offices in the city centre.
