I FEEL compelled to write this letter today, June 6, 2004.
I am ashamed that City of York Council, under the leadership of Steve Galloway, has decided that the British Legion will not be permitted to hold the service of Remembrance in the Barbican, this year of all years.
I was 12 on D-Day. To me it was a great turning point in my young life as I was no longer thinking "When Hitler gets here..." and all the fears that held. Instead we were pushing back the enemy and maybe after all my life could be very different.
Shame on you, Steve Galloway.
Shame on the Liberal Democrats.
But, most of all, shame on me because I foolishly voted for you at the last election. I have learned my lesson.
Dusty Wartho,
Eastfield Lane, Dunnington, York.
