QUITE like old times with Labour and Tory letter writers still singing from the same hymn sheet (Letters, June 3).
It was lack of investment in maintaining the city's pools by the previous Lab/Con administration which left the new council with little option but to sell land as a way of addressing the neglect.
Now there is a hard-won solution on the table in the form of the new Kent Street Leisure Centre. It includes a pool of the same size as exists at the Barbican but has also been designed to meet community priorities and provide leisure facilities which will be the envy of the region.
It is those facilities that Coun Jones and some of his Labour colleagues are now putting in jeopardy by calling on central government to overrule democratic local decisions.

Stirrup Close,
Foxwood, York.
