I AM growing tired of the hypocritical accusations towards telecommunications mast protesters (Letters, June 2).
We here in Fulford have been waging a mast campaign with O2 since 2001. Not against their mast but against their choice of site, which is far too near residential property.
The Stuart Report urges caution in the siting of said masts and that is all we are looking to achieve.
David Amess MP, whose Bill is due a second reading in the House of Commons soon, is calling on new planning legislation which would effectively put the onus on operators to prove need and safety of their masts. This Bill has cross-party support and rumour has it that Mr Amess uses a mobile phone; does that make him a hypocrite?
Our MP John Grogan, our ward councillor Keith Aspden and Green Party York councillor Andy d'Agorne all support us and guess what, they too use mobile phones.
Yes, Mr Lawson, fellow campaigners and I are mobile phone users. Hypocrites we are not.
