WE remembered D-Day, June 6, 1944 yesterday and the bravery, dedication and sacrifice of so many Allied servicemen and women; but what were they hoping for? Surely not the Britain of 2004.
We were a nation of merchant adventurers, buying in the cheapest and selling in the dearest markets. If we still made quality products at the right price, we would sell to the world; instead we are part of a gigantic con-trick - the EU.
We should have a free market, low taxation, low government expenditure, less interference and be debt free.
The Government should promote national unity and create a climate of concern for the old, young and the handicapped. Instead we have a collapse of law and order, no discipline at home, at school or university or at work
The three-dimensional family of grandparents, parents and children has gone. We have less and less faith, lower morals, little respect for anyone else or their property and few people to look up to in Government, sport, industry, the Church, the professions or the media.
Entertainment is aimed at the lowest common denominator.
Fewer people can be trusted and we are led by American ideas and values everywhere. What did they die for?
