THE assumption made by A Laws (Letters, May 31) that those of us who live within the area of Water Lane between Green Lane and Rawcliffe Drive would not complain if some No 6 buses were re-routed away from our area is erroneous.
Before the excellent No 6 service was introduced, this area was deprived of any bus service, consequently public transport was not popular with those who had cars. Now, many more people use the buses which is surely what the new service was designed to accomplish.
There are elderly people in this area too, of which I am one - in my late seventies, with health problems and no car.
The ten-minute walk I have to my nearest bus stop is just manageable, whereas the near 20-minute walk I had to use the half-hourly bus would not now be manageable.
I would suggest A Laws acknowledge the wisdom of the plans to provide a frequent and efficient bus service for everyone.
Incidentally, when the complainers of Osbaldwick counted the number of No 6 buses passing through their village, I wonder if they counted the number of polluting cars at the same time?
