A YORK biker died in a weekend of tragedy in North Yorkshire.

The 32-year-old motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries when his red Triumph machine collided head-on with a Jeep Cherokee in front of a group of bikers on the B6271 between Northallerton and Great Langton, yesterday morning.

Police officers are investigating an accident in which a 79-year-old Boroughbridge man suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a trials bike rider at a sports event.

A ten-month-old baby was in hospital with serious injuries today after a head-on collision between two cars on the A170 between Pickering and Kirkbymoorside yesterday evening.

The elderly motorcycling fan was watching trials at Thorp Perrow, just south of Bedale, when a motorcyclist came off the track and hit him.

He was taken to the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, by air ambulance but police said he died from his injuries at 4.30pm, five hours after the incident. The motorcyclist received minor injuries.

The baby was travelling in a Rover 25 when it collided with a Subaru on the A170 between Pickering and Kirkbymoorside at 6.15pm yesterday. The road was closed for five hours.

The woman driver of the Subaru and two adults travelling in the Rover were taken to Scarborough General Hospital with minor injuries.

A second biker was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries after his yellow Triumph collided with a green VW Polo on the B6161 near Harrogate yesterday afternoon.

Police said the motorcyclist and VW Polo driver were travelling in the same direction from Harrogate towards Beckwithshaw village when the accident occurred yesterday at 3.45pm.
