From salsa to super-heroes, an enterprising mother-of two has created a collection of costumes in the centre of York, with support and advice from the York, Selby and Malton Business Advice Centre.
Only a fortnight before she is due to open her new dancewear and fancy dress hire business in Blossom Street, at the beginning of next month Jayne Mason is offering a £50 voucher prize to whoever gives her shop the perfect name.
Mrs Mason, previously a full-time mother, wanted a fresh challenge after childminding for eight years, and embarked on Business Link's five week Fit For Business programme for start-up businesses.
As part of the programme Mrs Mason was assigned a personal adviser, Tony Breckin of York, Selby and Malton Business Advice Centre.
Mrs Mason said that she felt there was a niche in York for her venture, which sells a wide range of dancewear and hires out fancy dress costumes designed by herself and her close friend, Karen Whitehead.
Mrs Mason also received help from Brian Mynott of Working Links, a private-public partnership between Job Centre, personnel agency Manpower and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, aimed at helping people who have not been in employment for more than 18 months.
A prize is on offer to whoever comes up with the winning name for Mrs Mason's new shop. Suggestions can be emailed to her on jaynem107@aol.com, or sent by post to 31-33 Blossom St, York, YO24 1AQ.
