Measures introduced by the City of York Council to gain extra revenue from on the spot fines for parking offences and littering the streets are implemented by paid officers.
Here in the rural villages outside the ring road there is the opportunity for the council to gain instant revenues by targeting the groups of youths that drop enormous amounts of litter as they roam the streets, and the parents that continue to cause traffic congestion in school safety zones with their parked cars.
Do we ever see a parking warden? No.
Do we ever see a litter warden? No. Is that because the council prefers to have a high profile in the city centre to convince tourists and visitors what a splendid job is being done? Yes!
We get a tremendous, efficient and quick response from the city Street Scene cleaners if there is a particular problem they are told about but their extra work load could be lessened and paid for by the occasional deployment of parking and litter wardens to our areas.
