I THANK Selby District Council for the letter reminding me to renew my concessionary bus pass or to take the offer of £8 of bus tokens.
In the letter the council stated that local taxi firms also accept the tokens.
Does the council realise that living in a rural location such as Riccall the cost of a one-way taxi fare from Selby to Riccall is £8?
Additionally, do the residents of Selby and district know the Arriva Bus Company has introduced a 50p return fare from Deighton to York, and yet from the bus stop at Escrick church, which is about a quarter of a mile from the bus stop in Deighton, the Selby fare rate is charged?
Is this fair?
Why should Selby and district residents be penalised by having to pay higher concessionary fares than other areas of Yorkshire?
York residents have a "50p all day" concessionary fare operated by the First bus company. West Yorkshire operates a 30p per journey concessionary fare.
Come on Selby, get your head out of the clouds and come back down to real earth.
Remember, a referendum is coming.
